Once the winter arrives in the Ulla riverbanks, land of humble wine makers but with a long liquor makers tradition, the bright alembics become the inert grape skins in orujos and liquors that warm up the cold winter mornings.

The pulp of the grapes from our vineyards in the Ulla subarea are used once we get the grape juice, the raw material of our aguardiente.

The bagasse is kept in special tanks where a natural fermentation process is made. After being fermented, we proceed to the distillation in the traditional copper alembics, where it is warmed over a low heat until making it flow through a coil cooled with cold water. As a final result, we get the aguardiente.

The first steams (called heads) are thrown out and, in the following step, the hearts are shown, which are the base for our aguardientes. This liquor, known as "eau de vie" and used in ancient times as a magic spirit to cure diseases and keep illness away, has becoem nowadays in a prestige distilled spirit.

The grapes, that are grown in particular climatic and fertile land conditions, make the aguardiente have a distinctive bouquet and a nice scent that reminds some of the typical Galician flowers and herbs.

The aguardiente must be served in cold fine glass, slightly bellied and narrow mouth. The recommended consumption temperature for young aguardientes is between 8 to 12ºC.

The bottle printing patterns are based on Camanzo valley where the old stocks which grapes are used to obtain albariņo Sin Palabras are grown. With the pulp, Bocabajo Castrobrey Orujo, Coffe and Herbs Liquor are elaborated. The fog, that used to damage our stocks, made us place a windmill with four temperature sensors by hectare. When the temperature falls two degrees, it starts working: the cold air rises and the hot air falls avoiding the sprouts scorch. In the vineyards, when digging the ground, white quartz was found. The Celtic tradition considered that this mineral was always in magic places. The imaginary drawings could live among the vineyards, in the river, and could even fly or become into mermaids. The name of the product makes reference to the mythology so that the story can be seen when the bottle is upside down and the aguardiente or liquors are finished. Marujas Creativas, one of the best Galician design team, were the responsible of this successful new line of liquors.

We wish Bocabajo Castrobrey make you fly to those wonderful magic nights of wizards and goblins.
